The
idea to start the Women in Chicago Litigation and Practice Support
group (ChicLit) originated sometime last year. Board Members and
Co-Founders Jennifer Schwartz and Carolyn Young discussed the idea
on several occasions feeling there was a void in the Chicago area
when it came to certain aspects of the lit support industry. Primary
voids were education, traditional technology versus litigation
support and having a strong communication network focusing on such
topics.
Jennifer and Carolyn sought the input of other
prominent Chicago women in the industry in order to ensure the group
would develop and focus on common goals and challenges faced in the
Chicago Litigation Support Market.
On July 19, 2006 Women in
Chicago Litigation and Practice Support was clearly defined through
a group of Co-Founders who decided the group goals would be as
follows…
- To bridge the gap between traditional technology, litigation
support and practice support specialties
- To offer educational opportunities for women to learn about
industry trends, best practices and innovations in their fields
- To create leadership and networking opportunities among women
in the litigation and practice support fields
- To advocate the viewpoint of professional women in litigation
and practice support on issues affecting the application of
technology in their roles
- To establish a strong communication network among women
focused on litigation and practice support that includes law
firms, legal departments and service providers
